I shot my first wedding
Earlier this month, I had the incredible honor of photographing my friends’ wedding. And let me tell you, I was equal parts absolutely terrified and excited!
I’ve shot as a secondary wedding photographer before, but this would be my first experience as a solo photographer. Holding both joy for my friends’ big day and nervousness for the task ahead of me, I stuffed my pockets full of papers with prompts, pose ideas, people I could not forget to photograph, and the hour-by-hour events. I mentally prepared myself for a day of tight schedules, tension, and all possible gear problems. Maybe a swear word or two. Potentially a nervous breakdown.
Well, I did not go as I expected.
So how was it, really? It was joyful, it was fun, it was light. Just as a wedding should be! I navigated the celebration with camera in hands, inconspicuously capturing moments, and I laughed, cried a good bit, and danced.
What an honor to be trusted to capture such a special day! I pinched myself plenty enough before the celebration, and am still pinching myself today. I really did it, I shot my first wedding. And yes, I did run into a full card (obviously) and an empty battery (of course), but that was no surpise and, after all, I went prepared.
Something else I didn’t expect — I wholeheartedly enjoyed it. So much that I think I might, just might, do this again in the future. So you know, if you’re planning a small celebration or gathering, and this imagery looks like something you’d like to treasure for your own, let’s chat about it!
Biggest of thanks to M & O for trusting me on this big day — it means the world!
